The famous Bulgarian clarinettist ROSSEN IDEALOV is a graduate of the Dobri Hristov National School of Arts in Varna and the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music in Sofia – in the class of prof. Sava Dimitrov (clarinet) and prof. Konstantin Chilev (chamber music). He participated in master classes of Aurelian-Octav Popa in contemporary music and interpretation. He is a laureate of the Seventh All-Bulgarian Competition for Singers and Instrumentalists (1984) in the specialties of clarinet and chamber music. In 2021 he got an PhD at the Department of Chamber Music and Accompaniment at the National Academy of Music.
Rossen Idealov has been performing as a soloist and chamber musician for more than 45 years in Bulgaria and abroad – Italy, USA, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Russia, Slovakia, Hungary, China, Korea, Romania, North Macedonia, etc. He has been a soloist of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Sofia Soloists Chamber Orchestra and many other national symphony, chamber and wind orchestras.
He has participated on the stages of the most prestigious international music forums and festivals – Wien Modern, Triest Prima, Varna Summer, Sofia Music Weeks, March Music Days, Salon of the Arts and New Year Music Festival – NDK Sofia, Apollonia, Musica Nova, Sound and Connection, etc.
His repertoire includes over 700 works from the Renaissance to the present day. He is a much sought-after interpreter of contemporary music. Over 250 musical works have been written for him by eminent Bulgarian composers of different generations. He has released over 16 CDs, as well as numerous studio recordings for Bulgarian National Radio and Television, Radio Varna, WDR – Cologne.
Rossen Idealov has been teaching chamber music, clarinet and orchestra at the Lubomir Pipkov National School of Music in Sofia since 1999. Since 2006 he has also been an assistant professor at the Department of Chamber Music and Accompaniment at the National Academy of Music. He has given masterclasses and lectures at universities in the USA. He has written numerous arrangements for wind ensembles. He has twice been listed in the Cambridge University Who is Who catalogue (1993 and 1995).
Mr. Idealov has received prestigious awards. In 1999 he was awarded the prize for pedagogical achievements at the international competitions “Music and the Earth” and “Young Virtuosi” in Sofia. In 2005 he received the Golden Stave Award from the Union of Bulgarian Composers for his high artistic achievements and contribution to the dissemination of Bulgarian music. He is a two-time winner of the Golden Lyre Award of the Union of Music and Dance Artists in Bulgaria for excellence in performing and teaching (2009 and 2019). Together with violist Georgita Boyadjieva, he received the Crystal Lyre Award of the Union of Bulgarian Musicians and Dancers in the “Chamber Music” category for the CD “Dialogues” and the concert promotion (2012).
